7. ‘Oh, Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad’ by M. R. James
Time for something spooky
It’s the perfect time to settle down into something a little spooky. M. R. James’s tale fits the bill nicely and is often referred to as one of the scariest short stories ever written.
Since this one is a little longer in the tooth, I’ll post my thoughts on 25 October so we can have a good discussion about whether this story hit the mark or not.
If you want to get into short stories but don’t know where to start, we’ve got you covered at Short Story Club. Every month, I supply two tales that we read together and discuss. Best of all, it’s free and always will be.
